Vehicle plate patterns
Important things!
- All Austrian and German Vehicle plates must have a dash (-) symbol instead of a coat of arms โ
- Only capital letters A-Z and numbers 0-9 are used in the Vehicle plate
- Additional letters of the Latin alphabet like
ฤ,ฤ,ฤ,ลฝ,ล,ร,ร,ร, may be used depending on the country - Some letters and numbers may not be used in some countries

The alphanumeric format for registration plates is "XX โ number+letter(s)" or "XX โ personalised letters+number";
XX - one or two letters which indicate the local registration office (district where the registered possessor resides). As a general rule, State capitals have one letter; other districts have two letters. โ - the coat of arms of the Austrian state the district belongs to have a dash (โ) instead A three to six-letter/number sequence which uniquely distinguishes each of the vehicles displaying the same initial area code.

- The letters used in licence plates include all standard Latin alphabet letters outside of
Q(not used at all in the Polish language). - The letters
B,D,I,O, andZcannot be used in series area (on the right, after the gap), because they could be confused with similarly-looking digits. - Custom plates are allowed to include these letters though. The leading 0 in numbers is part of the code and is never omitted.
